Weedy Sea Dragon ‘Phyllopteryx taeniolatus’ is endemic to Australian temperate waters. it occurs from the central New South Whales coast around the south coast of Australia to South-Western Western Australia- which happens to be where I live and I know that they reside in the waters approximately 1km from my house. Although I have tried, I have been unable to spot them whilst snorkeling. They are extremely good at blending in. But this is where my obsession started. I guess I figured ‘If I cant spot one, then I’ll just have to paint one’!

My painting is referenced from the amazing photography by Jason Milligan (instagram : @millo_hd). I actually used multiple shots of his that I combined to create the one dragon, I wanted to incorporate all of my favourite elements from each individual he had photographed.
