Hector’s Dolphin ‘Cephalorhynchus hectori’ is the only cetacean endemic to New Zealand they are the smallest and one of the rarest marine dolphin in the world!

With their distinct black facial markings, short stocky bodies and a rounded dorsal fin they are very unique little dolphins. They are highly endangered, with entanglement in fishing gear being their major threat. Further threats include being struck by boats, pollution, coastal development and seabed mining.

There are people out there working hard at protecting these little guys! Maui & Hectors Dolphin Defenders in one such charity dedicating their time to the protection, preservation and recovery of this species. If you would like to help you can visit their website and make a donation.
