Ghost pipefish species with a little piece of the habitat that they surround themselves in and have adapted to just so incredibly perfectly that it is so hard to distinguish the difference!

The Halimeda Ghost Pipefish very closely resembles the algae Halimeda. Its disguise goes as far as being covered in fine ‘hair-like’ filaments that match the appearance of epiphytic growth on the Halimeda algae! I mean… how cool is that!

The Robust Ghost Pipefish does a brilliant job of mimicking a piece of floating seagrass. They float nearly motionless, with their mouths facing downwards, often found in pairs they seem to seamlessly move together to replicate the movement of floating seagrass amongst a background that makes them nearly impossible to see!
