The Leafy Sea Dragon ‘Phycodurus eques’ is one of three species of sea dragon found only in Australian waters (check out my prints of the other two species, wink wink”)
They belong to the family Syngnathidae which contains all of the dragons, seahorse, pipefish, trumpetfish, cornetfish and bellowsfish. I have become a little obsessed with this family of late as I find them extremely beautiful and fascinating.

But of all of these, the Leafy Sea Dragon would have to be the most elaborate and absolutely gave me the most challenging subject to paint! I loved every part of trying to capture all the leafy appendage details! It was tedious but I for one love how it turned out and I really hope you do too!
